Top 3 Tips on starting a Conversation with a Girl

You’ve seen it happen before, or maybe you’ve even experienced it yourself. A guy works up all his courage to talk to the girl he’s been watching all night, and drops his cleverly composed pickup line, using what he thought was a hilarious punchline. Immediately he finds that the line does not go over well, and not only is he rejected by the girl, but everyone around him is laughing at how terrible his line was.
So how do you avoid this problem in the future and save yourself the embarrassment?

Step #1: Just be real.

The biggest problem with lame pickup lines is that they are the essence of fakeness. A cleverly delivered punchline lets the girl know nothing about you or what kind of person you are, and ends up insulting her with its insincerity. Plus, chances are that the girl has been approached with the same line countless times before. Imagine if you approached a woman with sincerity, and how much that would make you stand out from the crowd.
Step #2: Keep the goal in mind.

What is the real goal of a pickup line? If you answered that is it to get a girl to like you right away, you are wrong. The most a pickup line can do for you is to comfortably start a conversation. The only way to get a girl to like you is to connect with her on a personal level. That’s why your opening line shouldn’t just be some joke, it should be a lead in to a conversation. It’s also crucial that the conversation that follows doesn’t just involve you talking to the girl, but rather engaging her. That’s what women mean when they talk about being swept off their feet, and it’s what keeps them from getting bored.

Step #3: Stay away from yes or no questions.

Jokey pickup lines also suffer because they tend to be yes or no questions, and once the girl answers it, the conversation hits a lull. On the other hand, real, honest introductory questions that ask her opinion on something open the doors to a longer conversation, buying you more time make your connection. If you can combine an open ended question with something that you can bet you’ll both have in common, such as your location (the bookstore, bar, or café you both happen to be in), you’ll multiply your chances of having an extended conversation many times over.
And finally, the most important rule is to be yourself. This has been repeated enough times that it sounds like a cliché at this poi
