Finding Hair Nirvana at the Trevor Sorbie Salon

I am a hairdresser hussy, shamelessly flitting from one salon to the next in search of the perfect relationship with a stylist who, like, totally gets my hair… Well after many years of searching I think I may have found The One. Her name is, well… should I tell you? I think I won’t, but she works at the Trevor Sorbie salon in Covent Garden and she managed to turn my lifeless mop into something to be proud of.

A great hairdresser needs to be able to listen to their client, and really hear what they’re saying – what are their concerns? Their hopes and dreams for their hair? How important is it to their personal sense of style, their identity even? If they ask for something truly dreadful, that won’t suit them in a million years; the hairdresser has to find a way of gently but firmly suggesting that this might not be the best thing for their hair. If they insist, they must find a solution that won’t compromise their hairdressing principles, but will still satisfy the customer.

While my hairdresser was trimming, shaping and styling my lacklustre locks, she explained that they were suffering from a build up of product. The Trevor Sorbie range is tested in the salon before it hits high streets across the land, so they know that it delivers on its promises, but they also use different ranges in the salon and my grubby tresses were given a thorough going over with a brand called Pureology, which is vegan, zero sulfate and incredibly effective. It was interesting to hear that while the Nordic market demands products that give volume, hold and root lift, the English customer is more concerned with getting their hair to be smooth and flat.

We debated the myth that during times of recession, people sport shorter haircuts, and as economic ‘green shoots’ start appearing, so people start growing their hair longer. According to the stylists on the salon floor, this is actually true! I asked whether people still come into the salon clutching photographs of celebrities and asking for their hair, and this does happen, but interestingly most women are resistant to the more edgy, ‘editorial’ looks we see in magazines. Just because it’s a hot trend, that doesn’t mean real women are going to request it. A cut like Emma Watson’s gamine crop might have got the fash-pack in a tizzy, but it would take a brave woman to lop off her long, feminine locks to recreate the look, and most don’t. Trends come and go, but what my hairdresser has found is that season in, season out, women simply want hair that’s flattering, feminine and healthy – and that invariably means long (but not too long.)

Trevor Sorbie understands how vital a head of healthy hair can be for a person’s confidence, and that’s why he founded My New Hair, a not-for-profit organisation for people suffering medical hair loss, offering advice and wig customisation. “My New Hair isn’t just about hair, it’s psychological medicine for women suffering from hair loss through illness and for many of the women I have seen, it’s the missing link in their treatment… Finding a cure for cancer and alopecia is a medical task but supporting the wellbeing of those people suffering the effects demands much more than a doctor can provide. How can a patient feel positive and strong when their personal self-image has been rocked to the core by baldness? Giving women back their hair – hair that looks natural, attractive and feminine gives them back a little of the confidence to face the world in their darkest hour. It was my personal experience of helping a family member during cancer treatment that inspired the idea of ‘My New Hair’… This is not about earning money, it’s about using my skills to give people something truly meaningful and now my handpicked peers across the UK are joining me in doing the same.” www.mynewhair.org

Justin NEW Shorter Hair Cut – PHOTOS

Somewhere out there the trimmed hairs of Justin Bieber are being packaged to be sold on eBay. The Biebs is no longer rocking his windswept do that thousands, including Tom Brady, copied. Looks like months of getting that perfect JB hair toss are now useless.
Bieber is showing off his new “more mature” (really?) hair cut on the cover of Us, “Justin Bieber: My Private World,” available to fans next Friday. Photos of Justin’s bedroom are included. I personally can’t wait to see his race car bed. This issue follows the Vanity Fair spread in which his mother stated that she and Biebs “were sent from God” along with the priceless gem the “Baby” singer cranked out about liking “black people music.

How to get super shiny hair

How to get super shiny hair
Do a conditioner wash, instead of using shampoo everyday, wet your hair, rinsing it thoroughly and apply conditioner only.

Do this first thing and allow the conditioner to set on your hair until your done showering.

Long hair should be wound up on top of your head so the shower does not rinse the conditioner out but allows it to set and deeply penetrate the hair shaft.

Lastly, rinse your hair in cool water, this closes the hair shaft sealing the cuticle so it does not become frizzy.

This also traps moisture into the hair shaft allowing the super shiny look and feel.

It is always better to air dry your hair. Blow dry your bang area and style but allow as much as possible of your hair to air dry to maintain the sleek shiny loo

10 Best Tips for Shiny Hair

We know what women want - money, cars, secure homes and among them, shiny hair . Studies have shown that a woman can feel more confident about her looks if her tresses are shiny - but how is such a look achievable? Luckily there are some very simple methods you can use to gloss up your locks and avoid having dull and lifeless hair. From the natural to the artificial, here are the 10 greatest tips for healthy, shiny hair, everyday!

1 - Wash it.
In this modern world, most women have absolutely no idea how to wash their hair in a way that is nourishing. The trick is to use a good shampoo suited to your hairtype, eg. fine, coloured etc, with a matching conditioner. Massage the shampoo onto the roots of your hair and scalp, and let it cleanse the rest of your hair as it rinses out. Only ever apply conditioner to the midlengths and ends of your hair, as the roots don't need it. Make sure to rinse off the products thoroughly - or even the best of shine-enhancing shampoos and conditioners will leave your hair looking dull. Always wash your hair in lukewarm water to avoid damage which reduces shine, and after washing, try to finish off with a cold rinse.
A good way to boost shine if you have naturally dry or dull hair is a moisturising shampoo and conditioner. I recommend Pantene Pro V Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner.
2 - Cut it.

Hair ages as it grows. The hair growing out of your scalp is always the youngest but your midlengths and ends - the most visible parts of your hair - are old, especially if you have very long hair. After years of being exposed to the elements it's not surprising that your hair may be dull and in need of a pick-me-up. A great way to give the end of your hair a little TLC is to have it trimmed regularly. This doesn't mean losing all your length, but simply involves cutting off the old and split ends, which can ruin the look of many hairstyles. It is recommended that you get your hair trimmed every 6 to 8 weeks.
3 - Colour it.

One reason why you have seemingly dull and lifeless hair is because of your colour - it may just be a dull shade or if you've been dying it regularly, chances are there's a build-up of colour. One way to fix naturally  dul hairis to dye it. You can choose to enhance your hair colour with a semi- or demi-permanant colour, which will wash out gradually and not leave any visible regrowth. You can choose a shade very close to your natural colour to simply liven it up or go a different shade - most modern hair dyes contain treatments to inject shine into the hair.
A great product that I recommend is L'Oreal Colour Pulse Concentrated Colour Mousse. It comes in a great range of colours to either enhance or change your hair colour and washes out in 8-12 shampoos.
4 - Brush it.

Overbrushing your hair is an excellent way to make it look dry and dull. Instead, you need to learn to brush your hair in a way that cares for it. To begin with, avoid brushing your hair while it's wet. When your hair is damp it loses up to 25% of its elasticity and therefore is more prone to breakage. Only ever brush wet hair with a wide-toothed comb. When brushing your hair at any time, always start with the ends, then move to the midlengths then roots. Otherwise, if you begin brushing at the roots and drag the brush down, any knots or tangles in your hair will compound and you'll end up with a mess at the end.

5 - Sleep on it.

Your hair is like your skin - it repairs itself overnight. There are numerous treatments on the market which, left in your hair, to wonders to repair it, leaving it healthy and shiny. Applying one of these before bed can give your tresses a much-needed moisture boost. Also, sleeping on a
silk pilloe case,as opposed to a cotton one, helps alot to prevent tangling and dullness in your hair. This is because your hair slides across the silk pillow case, whereas on cotton it catches.
As a great overnight repair treatment I recommend . redken real control overnight repair conditinner
6 - Drink it.

Just like your skin, your hair can get dehydrated too - and its a leading cause of dullness and lack of shine in hair. Drink up on the water to increate your hair's vitaliy and shine naturally. Your hair may be especially dull after a big night out, but chugging through 8 glasses of water a day should help combat this.

7 - Eat it.
You are what you eat! Food is not only good for your stomach, but for your hair, too. A great hindrance to the health and shine if your hair may be your diet, but ensuring that you eat plenty of fruit, vegetables and protein. Diets such as this add nutrients to the hair and help it grow from the inside out - and strong, healthy hair naturally shines.
8 - Dry it.

When drying your hair, always remember to be gentle. To simply towel dry, squeeze out the excess water from your hair and blot it with a towel - never rub or you will encourage breakage. However if you're interested in a blow-dry, always point the nozzle downward to ensure that your hair dries smooth and use your hair dryer 15cm from yourhead, at the lowest heat setting if possible. This will encourage the hair to take on a smooth, shiny appearance.

9 - Protect it.
Heat st;ling can leave your hair severely dehydrated and therefore lacking in shine. To protect your hair from the elements while either straightening, blow-drying or curling, use a heat protection styler. This will save your hair from drying out as you style it and will leave it feeling and looking great.
My absolute favourite heat protection styler of all time is Avoms advanced techinques heat protection styler. It comes in a spray form with which you mist the hair prior to adding heat.
10 - Fake it.
Shiny hair is something really simple to achieve - but if your hair remains dull and lifeless, its time to fake it! Using a product that adds shine will benefit your locks greatly by injecting shine and moisture into the hair. However, it is very important to choose the right product for your hair type. Use a spray if your hair is fine, while a serum is great on thicker hair. Be careful not to use too much, however, or you risk having your hair look greasy or wet.
A great shine spray to use is  REDKEN VINLY GLAM MEGA SHINE SPRAY
And there you have it! The 10 best tips to get your hair to really shine.
