Chart-crossing singer Chris Brown rocked the American Music Awards last night, scoring a trifecta of trophies including Artist of the Year.

Brown, 19, also picked up hardware for Favorite Male Artist in both the Soul-R&B and Pop-Rock categories

"I just want to thank first and foremost all the fans that supported me from Day One," Brown said upon accepting his first award.

Brown's gal pal, Rihanna, received a pair of honors for Favorite Female Artist in Soul-R&B and Pop-Rock.

"This is a big deal," the 20-year-old Rihanna said.

New York songbird Alicia Keys, who led the field with five nominations, took home two AMAs for Favorite Album in the Soul-R&B and Pop-Rock categories.

She capped the awards show singing her hit "Superwoman" from her triple-platinum selling album "As I Am."

Kanye West's CD, "Graduation," also won two awards, including favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album. If he was humbled by his win, he didn't show it in his grandiose acceptance speech.

"I'd like to thank everyone who accepted me trying to break new boundaries in music," said West. "It's our responsibility as musicians to keep pushing each other. We will be the new Beatles, the new [Jimi] Hendrix. I want to be Elvis."

Former Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox was given a Lifetime Achievement Award.

"I never thought that I would live to see the day that I would be 53 years old standing on the stage," Lennox said.

Late-night funnyman Jimmy Kimmel got the crowd in the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles revved up as he kicked off the star-studded show.

Kimmel took note of all the teen talent on the show's roster - including Miley Cyrus, who was celebrating her 16th birthday. He joked that the New Kids on the Block were among the veterans on hand.
